Hi all attached are photos of my 1988 RC588, the frame was made by spondon in 1988 and deliverd to the norton race team in April 1988. The Rcw588 was also made in 1988 by spondon and supplyed origonaly as a Raised engine Rc588 to the norton race team in may 88. Spondon also made alot of the ancillery stuff untill bob told Barry Symons to F off and get harriss to do their welding as well as the frames.
Rc588 SPE/NOR/A/387 and SPE/NOR/A396
Both bikes have were returned to spondon by me initaly to check the rc588 frame, stuart checked 387 first (for the price of a couple of bears on the phone) he declind the payment after hee checked it for me. The rcw which i bought compleat, but i new there was somthing not right and spacers ect were missing from the swinging arm Stuart checked it for me in december 2012.
On colection of the rcw after he sorted it out for me Stuart (Tiller) asked me who put the bike together as it would have kiled me if i had sorted the engine first as the forks setup was put together as bad as the swinging arm. An ex jps mechanic i replied
. Stuart Kindly put the bike right for me even though he new the end was nigh at the same time he sold me a set of new yokes, the last set of new yokes that will leave hear he said?
Its also worth mentioning on one vist he got the brown book of frame numbers out out and whent through every Spondon Norton race bike frame number and date made, including spec notes.
Spondons current owner declined to sell me the templates for the norton race bikes and parts remaning for my bikes, unfortunatly each race bike were individaly made and quite a lot of the templates are only of use to that bike. they also declined to make anything for me. I ponted out there are only 6 works norton spondon frames in private hands and i know from the sesion with the brown book there are no more bikes or frames tucked away somewhere, so there is no chance of the stuff been any use.
In adition to the above new spondon no drawings exist for the race nortons the notes were hand writtern in a book wich was last seen at the 2002 action in a box of junk that its belived did not sell and was skiped. so the templates are useles without an origonal bike to work out which goes with what verson the part was for that week, )the bikes were moidifide weekly .
