Hi guys, Sadly I dont have a bike but I used to work at Spondon Engineering I started off as a Saturday lad at the ripe old age of 13 cleaning up the lathes and shop floor and forever making endless drinks for everyone... I remember Bob and Stuart very well, along with all the other guys that worked there in the 80's. Sweary Bob is a good description of him, all the tantrums and spanner throwing are still very clear in my mind. He gave everyone a nick name and the one that stuck for me was Joe 90! I worked for £4 a day and was more than happy with that. I was too scared to ask him for a rise and when I did eventually ask him about 2yrs later, he gladdly upped it to £5. Mind you, by this time, all the jobs that I was doing must have made him a mint. It wouldnt happen like that nowadays, but I did enjoy the work. Thankfully, turning 16 and leaving school Bob and Stuart didnt hesitate to take me on full time for £1 per hour, which to me was like being a millionaire, especially when my mates were on £17.50 YTS schemes. Sadly a few months later, I was offered an apprentiship at British Rail and Bob could not match this. So this is where I parted my relationship with Spondon Engineering and loved every minute of it, even when the lads played tricks on me, like throwing me in the bath of cold dirty water lol... RIP Bob, you taught me lots as a youngster and RIP Spondon Engineering

Welcome to the group, we all fondly remember old Sweary Bob he was one of a kind. We are all still in touch with most of the old employees and love the old tales of Bobs lack of patience with most customers. For a faster response it's always worth looking on our Facebook page.
