Hi all.
I'm new to the club, but having just purchased the ex-HM Supermono, with Spondon (TZ) frame, I thought it appropriate to join - and, hopefully, get a little help/feedback from the other members.
So, here goes:
Though (to the best of my knowledge) the Supermono has always been a race bike, I'm contemplating registering it for the road. The logic being that I might as well include the parts for road use, as the bike needs a ground-up rebuild anyway.
However, as I understand it, the DVLA would need a dating certificate for the frame (which is numbered). So the question is, does anyone know if Spondon's frame building records still exist and from which a dating (year of manufacture) certificate could be produced.
Thanks in advance for any help available.
Regards to all,
Roger.

Hi Roger, welcome to the club! There's no easy answer to that at the moment I'm afraid as things are a bit up in the air at Spondon as Stuart Garner has now taken over overall control. It might be worth giving them a try, 01332 662157, if you don't have any luck, let me know and I'll see if Stuart Tiller could provide any info for you, cheers, Steve

Another help request.
Hello Steve,
I've not been able to get hold of Stuart Garner (on the number given, i.e., 01332 662157 as the message on ringing it is "number not recognised"). So I have to ask if there's another number for him, or any other way I might be able to obtain info on the ex-HM, (Spondon chassis) supermono... Date of chassis manufacture being sought.
Any assistance gratefully received and appreciated.
Regards,
Roger.

welcome in. I think you will struggle with the current Norton set up to get a dating letter tbh. I also think the process is very difficult and it will end up on a Q reg I think as it is heavily modified.

Hello Gamma498, thanks for the reply.
The Ex-HM Supermono chassis number is: SPE-NR/R/435.
I've received info the the effect that Spondon made the chassis to order for Mark Forsyth, who was a Performance Bikes journalist at the time.
Any further info would be very much appreciated.
Renewed thanks and regards,
Roger.

Hello Steve (Gamma498)... Sorry for not addressing you by name on Feb 13 (it was a 'mad day at the office').
Did you manage to let Steve Tiller have my Spondon chassis number, and if so, was any info available?
Regards,
Roger.

I'd forgotten about yours when I spoke to him mate so I've emailed him the details, he will give me a shout when he's looked, He's also getting me some info on my FZR while he's at it. I'll chase him up next week if I don't hear anything

Hi Roger, I spoke to Stuart and he said your frame was indeed supplied to Mark Forsyth, in 1989. Other than that there's not a lot else we can tell you, as far as Stuart knows it wasn't HM-Plant, unless Forsyth got some personal sponsorship from them but he said he may be wrong. I don't really know what you could do as regards a certificate as Spondon is no more and it would probably be difficult to get a copy of the details in the big book. Sorry I couldn't be much more help. Have you tried to get hold of Mark Forsyth, you never know, he may have kept his invoice? cheers, Steve

Hello Steve.
Many thanks for your efforts and the info gleaned.
Definitely a good idea to try and contact Mark Forsyth for anything further that he might have, or be able to help with.
Renewed thanks, and regards,
Roger.
